What does a Township zoning permit involve?

**Two permits, both before any work starts.**

1. A **Zoning Compliance permit** from the Township **Zoning Administrator**
2. A **building permit** from the **Clare County Building Inspector**

**What you submit.** Applications go to the Zoning Administrator and Building Inspector respectively, with a plan in duplicate showing the actual shape, size, location, dimensions and legal description of the parcel involved, including any separate ownership parcels within it.

**Timing.** Where the Zoning Administrator and Building Inspector determine the plans conform to the ordinance, the Building Inspector must issue the building permit **within 10 days** of receiving the application. A refusal must be in writing, stating the cause.

**Records.** One copy is deposited with the Township Clerk with notations on approval or disapproval and the date, one is returned to the applicant with similar notations, and one is kept by the Building Inspector.

**Fees.** Set by the Township Board, paid into the Zoning Fund. **No permit is valid until the fee has been paid.**

**Permits are non-transferable**, and building permits must be **posted in a prominent place** on the premises before and during construction.

**Starting early doubles the fee.** Where no permit has been secured before work begins, the permit fee for that work is doubled.

**Commercial buildings** additionally require State site plan review and approval.

**Contact the Township directly** for forms and current fees — the Association office cannot issue Township permits.
