Can I put in a swimming pool?

Yes, subject to a detailed set of Township requirements.

**When a permit is needed.** For a permanent above or below ground pool with a **diameter exceeding 12 feet** or an **area exceeding 100 square feet**, a building permit is required for its alteration, erection and construction.

**What the application must show.** The owner's name, how the pool will be supervised, and a plot plan giving dimensions and site location plus nearby buildings, fences, gates, septic tanks, tile fields, public utilities and easements. For a below-ground pool, add scale plans of the walls, slope, bottom, walkway, diving boards, auxiliary equipment, and piping and valve layout.

**Where it can go.**

- **Rear yard only**
- No part of the pool or associated structures may encroach on any **easement or right-of-way**
- Side yard setback per the zoning district; the pool fence may not be in the required front yard or required corner lot side yard
- Rear or side setback: **not less than 10 feet** between the pool outside wall and the lot line, or not less than the established easement width at the rear line, and not less than **4 feet** between the pool wall and any building on the lot

**Fencing.** Complete enclosure by chain link or comparable safety fence, **4 to 6 feet high**, set at least 4 feet from the pool wall, with self-closing self-latching gates secured by a tamper proof lock when not in use. There are limited exceptions for above-grade pools with smooth 4-foot walls and secured access.

**Electrical work** must comply with any applicable code, and service drops over the pool area must be relocated by arrangement with the utility before a permit issues.

**Architectural Committee approval is also required.**
