Can I live in my camper or RV on my lot?

**No.** This is one of the clearest prohibitions in the covenants.

No trailer, mobile home or similar type structure may at any time be used as a residence, **temporarily or permanently**. The same sentence covers basements, tents, shacks, garages, barns and other outbuildings.

**It also covers the building period.** The covenants state that no structure of a temporary character, and no building in the process of construction, may be used as a residence. So living on site while your house goes up is not permitted either.

**Freeman Township would allow a limited version of this. Your covenant does not.** The Township's zoning ordinance provides for temporary occupancy permits in platted subdivisions in certain circumstances. But where the covenant is stricter, the covenant governs — and here it is stricter, with no exception at all.

**Storage is a different question from living in it.** Having an RV on your lot raises other rules, covered in the article on boat and RV parking.

**What is permitted.** One single-family dwelling, and one garage or boathouse. Those are the structures a lot may carry, and the dwelling is the only one anyone may live in.

If you are building and need somewhere to stay, the cabins and campground are available to members in good standing.
