Can I be charged for damage my guest caused?

Yes. The Rules & Regulations set it out in two steps.

**First the guest.** The guest is responsible for treating Lake of the Pines common property with respect, and any and all damages and costs will be paid by the guest.

**Then you.** On what happens if they do not, the Rules & Regulations state:

> "If the guest does not pay, ultimately the property owner or member who sponsored them will be responsible for any damages related to the actions of their guests. To remain a member in good standing this cost must be paid. If not paid in a timely manner a lien will be placed on the property and member privileges will be suspended."

That is the rule as written in the Rules & Regulations.

**The same pattern appears elsewhere.** For an event you sponsor at the lodge or recreation hall, you are responsible for the facilities and for damage caused by your guests, and the same good standing consequence applies. Damaged or unreturned recreation equipment and rented boats are billed to the property owner. And the cost of replacing any Association property removed or destroyed is billed to the member responsible, with membership rights suspended until full restitution is made.

**What losing good standing costs you.** Use of the common properties and facilities, voting, eligibility for the Board and committees, your spot on the Pontoon Island boat dock waiting list, and identification cards and guest passes.

**Prevention is straightforward** — brief your guests on the rules before they arrive.
