Can I camp on my own lot?

**No.** Camping is allowed only at the campground.

The Rules & Regulations state that there is no camping on any common property — including the islands and the hunting grounds — **nor on any private property**, and refer members to the Restrictive Covenants for further information.

**The covenants are where the private-lot answer comes from.** They provide that no trailer, mobile home or similar structure, basement, tent, shack, garage, barn or other outbuilding may at any time be used as a residence, **temporarily or permanently**. The same applies to any structure of a temporary character, and to any building still under construction.

"Temporarily or permanently" is what closes the door. A weekend is temporary, and it is covered.

**If you have heard otherwise, here is why.** An earlier edition of the Rules & Regulations referred to obtaining a permit from the Freeman Township Zoning Administrator for camping on private lots. The Township no longer issues those permits, and the reference has been removed. In any case a Township permit would not override a private covenant that runs with your land.

**Where you can camp.** The campground, on a designated site, under the campground rules — up to 14 consecutive nights, eight people per site, one camper and one tent.
